Scottish Cup Result – GGFC 14s 2 – Westdyke 16s 0

GGFC 14s made the long trip north to take on an experienced Westdyke 16s team, who play in the North regional 17s league.

The tie saw the girls away on an overnight trip and to say the least it was eventful! Staying in the holiday inn express in Aberdeen the girls got preparation started in the best possible way to progress.

GGFC started the game brightly pressing the ball high and taking the game to Westdyke. There was no surprise when we took the lead in the 7th minute through Rebecca Mcallister’s smart run and cool finish into the bottom corner. Westdyke had the opportunity to level things before the break but Jodie Burrows had other ideas. With an outstanding one handed save to deny the home side, showing that age means nothing to her being the second youngest in the squad.

HT 1-0 TO THE GLASGOW SIDE

With a few tactical changes in the second half GGFC where determined not to concede with great defending and running especially from our midfield maestro for the day Victoria Mcdonough. Westdyke showing threatening signs with Jodie making some brave interceptions in the GGFC goals. With Westdyke showing the could score at any time but the youthful GGFC showed they weren’t done when in the 63rd minute Rebecca was brought down in the box after breaking through the home sides defence line, she dusted herself off to step up and dispatch the penalty to make it 2-0 to the visitors and score her second of the game to see us through to the quarter finals of the Scottish cup. A great achievement for the young squad in the first year at 15s.

A great weekend and result from the team. The girls showed maturity and great team spirit to stick together in a memorable weekend for them all.

Player of the match- Victoria Mcdonough with her hard work, endless running, tackles and through balls in the midfield by far the best performance this season from Victoria.

From the coaches and players a big thank you to drivers, parents and supporters who made the journey with us, we are sure the girls made it worth while with the laughs and not forgetting the result.
