Recap

Report by Campbell Finlayson

Glasgow Women began the new season with a 4-0 thrashing of Stirling University.

Craig Joyce’s side led by three at the interval through Abbi McDonald, Tara McGonigle and a Rebecca Hellgen own goal before Suzie McTaggart scored early in the second half to complete a comfortable start to the season.
The first chance went the way of Stirling in the opening minute when Jodie Malcolm shot over but it was Glasgow who took the lead on 12 minutes when Abbi McDonald capitalised on a mistake from the University keeper to poke the ball into the net.

McGonigle and Taylor Hammill both forced the keeper into saves, albeit simple ones as Glasgow Women continued to dominate and they would score again after 40 minutes when Lucy Ronald and McTaggart played a one-two before Hellgren diverted the ball beyond Claire Whitaker into her own net.
It was McGonigle who added a third before the break when she got on the end of a beautiful cross from McDonald before firing a volley into the roof of the net.

Stirling Uni had chances to score from two corners but neither Lindsey Blues nor Shana MacPhail could find the back of the net.
Glasgow nearly added a fifth when a McGonigle cross came back off the bar but the scoring stopped at four as the season began in scintillating style.
